We interviewed Chuck Jennings, PER charter member in May of 2018 and the following are his memories of our beginnings.
“In early 1974, Gordon Otis and Ed Marion, who were members of Port Angeles’ Naval Lodge, proposed an idea. They obtained permission from Grand Lodge to create Lodge 2524. With the help of Naval Lodge, word of mouth, and demits from other lodges, we were able to come up with the 350 new members required at the time. We did what was necessary to send in our application for charter. Norm Galloway is called the Father of Lodge 2524.
Our first meeting was held at the “Top of the Rock” at the Vagabond. With the help of Nava and Bremerton lodges, we managed to have our first meeting on a Wednesday night. We didn’t have much of an officer corps at that time, we had new people coming and going all the time. We were a busy group, learning how to run a lodge, and constantly getting new members. By January or February, we had enough members to have our charter granted.
We installed our officers:
Ed Marion, Exalter Ruler – Gordon Adrian, Leading Knight – Dick Streeter, Loyal Knight – Lawrence Vail, Inner Guard –
The balance of officers have been lost to history.”
If any charter members still available and can fill in the blanks, please let your lodge officers know.
